I used to think that improvement line, when plotted on a graph, should be a steadily increasing straight line. In practice it looks more like a staircase, with plateaus of seemingly no progress, and then breakthroughs where everything suddenly ‘clicks’ until new plateau is reached. Because of my misunderstanding of how progress works, I often unnecessarily felt as if I was failing at life whenever I was in the plateau phase. Now I know it’s normal, so I feel less pressure, and I can just keep trying and taking baby steps one day at a time .Persistence pays off!
